Krølle-Bølle Isbar – ice cream in Snogebæk
Krølle-Bølle is Bornholm's most famous troll — and the name of the ice cream we make at our own dairy in Svaneke. You will find it at retailers all over the island and in our ice cream bar in Snogebæk.
The ice cream came home
In 2023 production of Krølle-Bølle ice cream moved back to Bornholm and into our dairy in Svaneke. In 2024 we opened the ice cream bar in Snogebæk, giving the troll its own place on the island.
Krølle-Bølle all over the island
You do not have to travel to Snogebæk for a Krølle-Bølle. We deliver single-serve ice cream — lollies, cones and tubs — to retailers all over Bornholm, so you can meet the troll at the kiosk, in the shop, at the museum and at the music venue. If you run a place where Krølle-Bølle would fit in, you can read more about becoming a retailer.
The troll from Langebjerg
Krølle-Bølle began as bedtime stories. In 1943 the Bornholm native Ludvig Mahler invented a small mischievous troll with curls in his hair and a curl on his tail, to lull his sons to sleep. Mahler also drew the troll, and gradually the whole family took shape: his sister Krølle-Borra and his parents Bobbasina and Bobbarækus Fillirækus, living at Langebjerg on the northern tip of Bornholm.
The first book was published in 1946, and the troll grew far bigger than the nursery. Krølle-Bølle became the island's mascot and an emblem of Bornholm folklore. In the 1950s the dairy in Humledal made the first Krølle-Bølle ice cream, and the bond between the troll and the ice cream has held ever since.
